My heart goes out to Phil's family. I was a classmate of Phil's when we were in college at Our Lady of the Angels Seminary. At that time in our lives, we were not very good friends. About four or five years ago. I became friends with Phil on Facebook. He asked me for my phone number and out of the blue, one day, he called me. He wanted to apologize for the way he treated me when we were in college. I too apologized for how I had treated him. It was so wonderful to speak to him after so many years. I feel blessed that after that I could read and follow his postings on Facebook. The world has lost a caring, spiritual soul. He now rests with Francis and Our Lord Jesus Christ who he faithfully served throughout his life! May the angels meet you, may they welcome you my brother into the Holy Kingdom where all his good and faithful servants rest for eternity with God!

I never met my dear fellow Brother Franciscan Phil in person, but I feel as if I had lost a best friend! Phil called me several times when I was down, sent me a prayer book... just did all kinds of things to be a Big Brother. I will miss him so so much.

Since June of 2008, Phil and I have been very good friends. I did not have a car so Phil helped me out on many occasions once taking me to visit my dying sister some 100 miles from Madison. When Phil had his heart surgery three years ago, I stayed at his place with his feisty border collie for a week until he could move about. Five years back when I moved into my low income apt. he surprised me with a new microwave which I used this morning. I will miss Phil and regret I never took him to my secret fishing spot ! Well, Friar Phil, walk with St.Francis and be at peace.

Philip was one of the best people I've ever known. He cared about everyone. Our little grand-daughter is ill, and Phil checked with me every day on her; even signed himself up as a bone marrow donor, and was praying he was a match. Phil, you will be SO missed :-( . I know you're where you worked your entire life to be, and for that I am thrilled. Just know you will be missed here on earth so much.

I only knew Fr. Phil for less than a year, but what a year! We enjoyed so many great phone conversations about everything from our ministries and our shared Franciscan Brother/Sisterhood, to politics and everything in between. We supported each other in many ways, and I was amazed at Phil's energy level as he was always running out the door to help someone or celebrate Mass for the Clare sisters and others. His heart was filled with fire and passion for serving God. A true Franciscan in every way. May his soul rest in deep peace in God's loving arms, and may his legacy of giving and fighting for others be an inspiration to us all. Deep peace and blessings to you my dear brother.

We all have that one friend…..that as soon as you answer the phone you start laughing. We all have that one friend who works their hardest to push your buttons and you work darned hard to push theirs. We all have that one friend whom we know we can rely on, no matter what time of day, no matter the issue. We all have that one friend who has not the first clue when it comes to technology and feels successful when they make a post with no mistakes (which, in this case never happened.) We all have that one friend who is a ‘political animal’ and posts and posts and posts until you want to scream STOP!!!! Some of us are privileged to have that one friend who fights for the faith, no matter the cost, who stands up for the down-trodden, who continually works for the betterment of mankind. Some of us are privileged to know someone who truly exemplifies Christ’s command to feed the hungry, to house the homeless, to clothe the naked. For me, Fr. Friar Phil Gerboc is that person. Like his hero, St. Francis, Fr. Phil dedicated his life to service. A dedicated, die hard Franciscan, he could quote the Omnibus at length, at the drop of a hat, ad infinitum. And like St. Francis, Phil has left us too soon. I love you, my dear, dear friend. And I totally expect you to keep working for us in Heaven. Til we see each other again.... +Michael

To Phil's Family, I was so saddened to learn of Phil's passing last week. Phil worked for me at UNITE many years ago. We sporadically stayed in touch until 2016 when we talked by phone several times. Phil planned to visit me after his ordination as Bishop. I was so looking forward to seeing Phil. I know that he loved his Church. I have made a contribution to the church in Phil's memory.
